Innovating in sustainable tourism with photovoltaic installations

Today we want to talk to you about the photovoltaic installations carried out in collaboration with Bypillow, a pioneering hotel chain in the Lowcost chic concept. This accommodation company has hotels and hostels present in 8 cities throughout the territory, including Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Seville. They are creating a new form of accommodation through technology, chic design and respect for the environment, following a global trend of Smart Living. The client has trusted Envolta Energia to execute different photovoltaic projects on the roofs of their tourist buildings.

This strategy takes a firm step towards reducing the carbon footprint and using cleaner energy sources. In addition, solar energy provides long-term economic benefits. With its own electricity generation, Bypillow appreciates reducing electricity operating costs, freeing up resources for other investments and improving its competitiveness in the market.

Since the beginning of the year, two facilities have already been inaugurated in Catalonia, two more are being processed and executed in Madrid, and others will advance consecutively. The Envolta Energia team has accompanied Bypillow during all stages of engineering, processing and execution: design of the photovoltaic system, feasibility study, permits with the municipalities, preparation of the photovoltaic installation and commissioning, as well as legalization of the plant, compensation of surpluses, among others.

Below, we present some of the most advanced projects, where between €2 thousand and € 4 thousand in annual savings are expected, and a reduction in greenhouse gases of approximately 1700 kg of C02eq per year in each hotel :

Benefits of photovoltaic installations in the tourism sector.

  1. Profitable project. Increase economic performance by saving monthly on your electricity bill. A hotel’s peak electricity consumption occurs during the hours of sunshine, which contributes to increasing the installation.
  2. Solar radiation. The peak tourism season coincides with the equivalent height of solar radiation (summer) and the facility generates more electricity precisely when there are more tourists.
  3. Competitiveness. Sustainable tourism and environmental awareness are on the rise, many customers are interested in services or products that are environmentally friendly. Solar panels create a positive perception and brand image for travelers.
  4. Decarbonization. Bypillow reduces its CO₂ emissions with the photovoltaic installation, approximately 1,714 kg of CO2eq per year in each hotel. By installing renewable energy, you promote respect for the environment.
  5. Easy installation. To carry out an installation in a hotel, hostel or campsite it only takes a few days and most of the work is done on the roof, which means that they do not have to close activities.
