Sustainability that makes B2B grow
“When sustainability is integrated into the proposal and the commercial process, it ceases to be a chapter of conformity and becomes a reason for preference.
This is where B2B growth becomes tangible.”
Where the purchase decision changes
The variable “sustainability” is shifting from the supplier’s operation to the effect of the offer on the customer’s business. Internal credentials are no longer enough: you need to demonstrate lower CO₂e per functional unit, lower TCO throughout the life cycle, better durability/circularity, and less regulatory risk (carbon taxes, labeling, digital product passport). Quality continues to lead, but the sustainability of the offer is gaining weight and competing with price and service.
Myths and realities that we observe in 2025:
- “It’s stuck.” What we observe is Simplification: less storytelling, and more use cases with auditable metrics.
- “It’s a cost.” Well focused, sustainability is differentiation, protection against future regulations and revenue growth.
- “It’s the same as always.” It works with a specific playbook: speaking the customer’s language (Scope 3, TCO, risk) and demonstrating ROI.
In this scenario, B2B companies are now looking to prioritise customers with environmental objectives and place sustainability at the core of the proposal, quantifying the CO₂e per functional unit and the TCO (total cost of ownership) with respect to the alternative and linking it to real requirements (tenders, digital passport, green financing).
A key element to facilitate execution is that the sales team must have simple tools – emission calculators per unit, technical data sheets and use cases – that allow them to demonstrate the benefit and reduce justifications in the purchasing process. Likewise, prices, margins and incentives must be aligned with value to ensure that the spread is systematically captured.
Overall, it must be ordered who to prioritize, what to say and how to demonstrate it, so that sustainability becomes a measurable and repeatable argument.
